Why choose to upgrade to Full Icecat?

Avatar for icecat

We advise users to start their implementations with free Open Icecat. Next, if the technical interfaces are satisfactory, and the business requires it, we advise to look into upgrading to Full Icecat, accessing Icecat’s complete database with multimedia product data.

What are the main advantages of Full Icecat?

The main advantages of Full Icecat are:

  • Having access to the complete database of Full Icecat with all 10,000s of brands. Not just the Open Icecat brands that sponsor their product information. If you don’t see the brand logo on the Icecat website, the brand’s product data is only available through Full Icecat.
  • Your complete catalog can be covered by Full Icecat with its millions of product-data-sheets in some 50+ languages.
  • Coverage guarantees for the stock products of mainstream distributors and categories.
  • Access to catalogs spanning all major verticals: Computing & Electronics, Telecom, Office supplies, Do It Yourself, Toys, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Fashion, Health & Beauty, and many others.
  • Additional service levels can be agreed upon for editor support, additional categories, and data model standardization to cover the gaps in your portfolio.
  • Your company’s own brands can be fully supported.
  • Free Vendor central: your own supplier portal or PIM included at no additional cost in your subscription.
  • Technical support for integrating Icecat in your ebusiness infrastructures
  • Availability of many add-ons to mainstream platforms, ranging from webshop, PIM, purchasing, EDI and other platforms.
  • Fully compatible with the technical interfaces and data model of Open Icecat.
  • Very cost effective subscriptions.

Is the technical interface of Full Icecat the same?

Yes. The data model and interfaces of Open Icecat and Full Icecat are fully compatible. So switching from Open to Full Icecat is easy and requires almost no development. Changing access URLs and adding authentication to access the Full Icecat database are the main differences.

    We are a startup insurance company. Looking to be in the New Zealand market early next year.

    We will be offering item insurance e.g. phone, camera, laptop
    Additional items to be added in the future e.g. bike, drone

    We need access to a database of items (either locally with regular updates or via an API) to;
    Allow customer to identify items online by selecting Make, Model and Price
    e.g. Samsung Galaxy S7 or HP ProBook 6540b
    Allow us to attach rating indicators or factors to various items for calculating premium
    Stock images to assist with identification

    A typical flow might look like;
    Customer requests a quote for a smartphone
    We display a list of Smartphone vendors for selection
    Based on the selection we display a list of Models
    Based on selection we display a list of variations (e.g. different size SIM cards etc)
    Based on selection a recommended values is displayed

    I have attempted to get this information from the Open Icecat but the access is very much orientated towards all details on individual products

    We would like to get a small number of details on all products in selected categories

    e.g. Brand, Product Family, Product Name, Product Model
    for notebooks, smartphones, digital cameras

  • Hi Peter, thanks for your message! Of course, you can decide to import only some data instead of the whole data sheet. This is an easy setup you should do upfront. Icecat data is standardized and atomized, thus very flexible to integrate, especially in the XML, JSON and LIVE formats. Check the manuals at the "Manuals" section in the blog.
