As of today, a new version of Iceclog is released, based on user and member feedback.
A major new feature in Iceclog 2.3.0 is that our members have the possibility to quickly and seamlessly create new accounts based on their existing LinkedIn or Facebook profiles, or re-login with these mainstream social media.
Our automated account creation mechanism would take firstname, lastname, login email and profile picture from your existing LinkedIn or Facebook account and use it to create your new Iceclog account. Everything with a single click and a single login!
How does the social media registration and login actually work? We are using the industry standard OAuth protocol to make a secure connection between Iceclog and LinkedIn (read more on OAuth). When you visit our register or login page, you will notice the buttons “Connect with LinkedIn” and “Connect with Facebook”. Next, when you click on one of these “Connect” buttons you will be redirected to LinkedIn or Facebook, where you will be prompted to accept Iceclog as network that can get only some limited account data: your first name, last name, email and profile pic.
Upon successful login, you will be redirected to the Iceclog network and you will get a new account or be logged in to your existing one. The basic fields and image in your profile will be automatically populated from your social network of choice. This saves time.
In the near future, we are planning on integrating Iceclog with additional social media networks such as Google, with the goal to further improve your Iceclog experience!
You made some suggestions related to UX and profile pages and we listened. The profile page is now improved on several aspects:
We received very positive feedback related to the groups sidebar. This feedback came with several suggestions which we implemented:
We have implemented the latest AMP recommendations to the Iceclog network. This means, that if you are accessing our pages with mobile devices, you will have a better user experience and faster loading time.
Furthermore, this means that the Google search engine is providing an increased number of impressions for our network, which will improve the visibility of all the content created by our members.
One of the next goals is to further improve the speed of our site by optimizing CSS and JavaScript minification, which would result in better SEO and better content exposure for our members.
We performed regular security maintenance and updated our whole infrastructure, server and CMS based. We updated our CMS to the latest available version. Furthermore, we updated all our modules to the newest versions and removed several modules which were no longer supported or needed.
