Germany Set to Become European E-Commerce Leader in 2025

Just four countries generate almost two-thirds of the European e-commerce: Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Italy. The UK is actually the European e-commerce leader, in spite of the Brexit. However, according to the forecasts of Statista, this is subject to change. In 2025, Germany will take the reign. Accounting for 19% of the European online revenues, Germany is set to become the new European e-commerce leader. The UK is expected to generate 18%, and France will follow with 12%.

European e-commerce steady growth

E-commerce has been the fastest-growing channel over the last decade, and the share of online commerce on all trade is increasing rapidly. The coronavirus pandemic also backed up this trend. As a result, the percentage rose from 13% to 19% between 2019 and 2021. E-commerce will also flourish in the coming years. Predictions see the overall European online revenues doubling between 2020 and 2025 to a sum of over 1 billion euros.

As the giants’ share stagnates or even slightly decreases, smaller countries are going to catch up, according to Statista. Although e-commerce in smaller countries is developing rapidly, the top places of the European e-commerce rank are not likely to change in the near future.
