Amazon Ads is expanding into conversational AI through a new integration with ChatGPT, giving advertisers another way to reach consumers while they research products, compare options, and make purchasing decisions.
The partnership with OpenAI allows advertisers to extend campaigns managed through Amazon Ads into ChatGPT. The integration is currently being tested with selected advertisers in the United States, including Delta Vacations.
For Amazon, the move extends its advertising business into one of the places where consumers are increasingly researching what to buy. For e-commerce brands, it adds another channel to an already complex product discovery journey.
Amazon describes conversational advertising as a growing opportunity for brands to reach consumers where they are spending time.
Through the integration, advertisers using Amazon’s demand-side platform can include ChatGPT Ads within broader campaigns. Amazon brings its advertising technology and extensive shopping, browsing, and streaming signals, while OpenAI controls how ads are delivered within ChatGPT.
Ads remain separate from ChatGPT’s organic responses and are clearly identified as sponsored content. OpenAI states that advertising does not influence the answers ChatGPT generates and that advertisers do not access users’ private conversations.
The format matters because consumers often approach conversational AI differently than conventional search or social media.
Instead of entering a short keyword, someone might describe exactly what they need, ask questions about alternatives, or spend several messages refining their requirements before deciding. That creates a different advertising environment.
The Amazon integration arrives as AI becomes more involved in the early stages of e-commerce.
Consumers can use ChatGPT to understand product categories, compare specifications, investigate different brands, or narrow a large number of choices to a manageable shortlist. Amazon says the integration is designed to help advertisers engage customers as they explore, compare, and make decisions.
Advertising can now become part of that conversational research process.
This does not necessarily replace search advertising, retail media, or marketplace advertising. Instead, it adds another point where brands can reach shoppers before a transaction.
Amazon advertisers can therefore potentially maintain a presence across several stages of the customer journey, from product discovery and research to marketplace activity and purchase.
For e-commerce brands, however, appearing in an AI-driven environment is only one part of the challenge.
Once an advertisement introduces a product, consumers may immediately ask detailed questions. They may want to compare specifications, understand compatibility, evaluate different models, or find an alternative within a particular budget.
This is where the development becomes particularly relevant to Icecat.
Accurate and structured product information gives e-commerce systems a reliable foundation of identifiers, specifications, descriptions, images, features, and other attributes. As conversational platforms become another product discovery channel, that information needs to remain consistent wherever the shopper continues their research.
A strong advertisement may create interest, but incomplete or inconsistent product information can make the next stage of the journey more difficult.
For brands managing thousands of products across retailers, marketplaces, advertising platforms, and AI interfaces, maintaining that consistency becomes increasingly important.
Amazon’s ChatGPT integration also shows how quickly the boundaries between advertising, search, and e-commerce are changing.
OpenAI has been expanding its own advertising platform in 2026, including new AI tools for campaign creation and Sponsored Agents that let users start separate conversations with business-sponsored agents after clicking an ad.
Amazon’s participation brings one of the world’s largest digital advertising ecosystems into that environment.
The result could be a customer journey in which a consumer discusses a need with an AI assistant, encounters a relevant sponsored product or service, asks further questions, compares alternatives, and eventually moves toward a transaction.
For e-commerce businesses, this means AI visibility is no longer only about whether a product appears in an organic AI recommendation. Paid visibility is becoming part of the same conversational environment.
As those two paths develop, product information remains fundamental. Advertising can put a product in front of the shopper, but accurate product data helps ensure that the product can be understood and evaluated once it gets there.
