Nordic countries have been among the first ones adopting the Internet. Digitization has also grown rapidly, and as a result the number of e-commerce consumers, internet penetration and average spending is above the average in Europe, according to the “E-commerce report in Europe 2018” by PostNord.
In Denmark, 61% of the population shops online. While their e-commerce market is only the 2nd biggest in the Nordics after Sweden, it seems that on average the Danish shoppers spend the most money online in the region: €229 monthly.
The most popular products to purchase are electronics, which explains the Icecat statistics: more than 50% of Danish downloads are regarding electronics. 42% of Danish buyers choose e-shopping due to the more convenient time frame. Other reasons are cheaper prices, larger product selection, saving time, and convenience.
Ecommerce leads to an increased delivery demand. Therefore, several logistics companies invest in further development of their services. DHL Express invests in a new hub in Denmark to handle 37,000 packages per hour, announces the Ecommercenews platform. Similarly, PostNord extends its relationship with one of the busiest Danish e-commerce fashion platforms, Zalando. It will provide logistics services in all four Nordic countries for the company. As an additional service, specifically for Zalando, PostNord will provide a free pick-up of returns option within one hour at a location of the customer’s choice, reveals the Ecommercenews.
Danish people seem to still prefer payment with debit or credit card, however, the number of e-wallet users has proportionally increased over the last years due to the emergence of hands-on solutions such as Dankort, MobilePay or NetsPay.
