Icecat Studio Sprint 103 Release Notes: Accessibility Goes Live, Full Design Fidelity in the Sandbox

Icecat Studio Release Notes

Sprint 103 was a release-heavy sprint. Our accessibility and interface quality program shipped to production — making Icecat Studio fully operable without a mouse, perceivable to screen-reader users, and easier to scan thanks to a rethought color system. The Sandbox completed its design fidelity scope with gradients, Canva import, and shadow & blur effects. And behind the scenes, we started building a publication verification layer and laid the groundwork for a completely reimagined Home Page.

Visual AA — contrast & a rethought color system

Alongside improvements in contrast and target size, we redesigned how the platform uses color.

Status colors now encode the action class rather than individual status identity (the identity is always carried by the badge text). Four classes, one shade each: amber for states that need user action and won’t change on their own (e.g., In Progress, Draft), green for successful final states (e.g., Approved, Published), red reserved exclusively for errors, and gray for transitional or neutral states where the system is working and no attention is required (Pending, Validating, Processing).

Variant badges were consolidated the same way — from a color per variant type down to three: one for Icecat variants (Standard/Premium), one for Amazon variants (A+ Standard/A+ Premium), and one for Exclusives. The result: color stops being decorative noise and becomes a signal — a glance at any table answers “what needs my attention?” before reading a single word.

All of this shipped without disrupting existing workflows — a systematic step toward WCAG 2.2 AA as our mandatory quality baseline.

Sandbox – Gradient Feature & Rendering Fixes

Gradient support — the most frequent blocker when importing Figma-exported designs — is now live. Beyond correct import, gradients are fully editable directly in the Sandbox:

  • Solid / Gradient fill toggle: object’s fill can be switched between a solid color and a gradient in the color picker.
  • Linear gradients with angle control: Set the gradient direction with a precise angle value (e.g., 45°).
  • Full color control with transparency: Stops accept 8-digit HEX values with an alpha channel — so gradients can fade into full transparency, a common pattern in product hero designs and overlays.

Alongside gradients, we shipped a package of rendering fixes: font rendering inconsistencies between editing mode and final output, oversized packshots, black space around icons, and validation errors reported by partner design teams.

Sandbox – Canva Import (SVG & PDF)

The Sandbox now accepts master creatives from Canva, in both SVG and PDF formats. Design teams are no longer limited to Figma as the source of truth — broadening the range of tools brands can use to feed content production in Icecat Studio.

Sandbox – Shadow & Blur Effects

The Sandbox Image Editor gained a new Effects panel in the object properties, closing the final gaps in the SVG import fidelity scope. Effects can be added via Add effect, stacked on the same object, toggled on/off individually with a visibility control, or removed entirely — and each effect opens its own settings popover:

  • Drop shadow: Fully configurable — X/Y offset to control the shadow’s direction and distance, blur radius for the softness of the edge, and color with an alpha channel (8-digit HEX with the built-in eyedropper), so shadows can be as subtle or as pronounced as the design requires. Text and objects imported from design tools now keep their shadows instead of arriving flat.
  • Layer blur: A blur effect applicable to any layer — images, text, or shapes — with an adjustable blur radius. Useful for background depth effects, softening secondary content, or reproducing frosted-glass looks from master designs.

Both effects can be combined on a single object — for example, a blurred product image that still casts a soft drop shadow — and everything renders identically in the editor, the exported output, and the published story.

With gradients, font rendering, shadows, and blur now covered, designs exported from Figma and Canva reproduce faithfully in the Sandbox — the full visual fidelity scope requested by our brand partners is complete.

Publication Status Check – In Development

We investigated and started building an additional verification layer for story publication to Icecat Network. The new mechanism goes beyond the returned feedback status: the platform directly requests each published story and confirms its content is actually visible. Release is planned for the next sprint — eliminating silent publication failures for good.

Icecat Studio AI Assistant & MCP Server

  • AI Assistant: We continued maturing the create-and-edit workflow toward wider rollout — testing the targeted story editing tools against real-world scenarios and refining story creation (automatic layout selection, human-readable errors, smarter content distribution).
  • MCP Server: Development continued on the server that will expose Icecat Studio capabilities to external AI agents via the Model Context Protocol — reusing the AI Assistant’s tool layer, with API-key authorization scoped to each user’s existing permissions and limits.
