New Icecat–ChannelEngine Connector Automates Product Content Delivery for Retail Integration

Icecat has added a new connector to its growing portfolio of e-commerce integrations: the ChannelEngine Connector. This service enables automatic synchronization of product data between Icecat (via its Hexagon platform) and ChannelEngine, a leading marketplace integration solution used by retailers across Europe.

The new connector ensures accurate, up-to-date product content is seamlessly delivered to ChannelEngine without manual uploads or third-party tools.

Streamlined Data Flow

The ChannelEngine Connector is built for operational simplicity. Every day at 2:00 AM server time, the system pulls the list of products that clients have added to their dedicated Icecat Channel within ChannelEngine. These products are then added to an “enrichment” collection in the Icecat system to prepare them for content delivery.

How Templates Work

To ensure clean data updates, the connector uses a two-step template system triggered daily at 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM:

  1. Removal Template: This first template deletes any previously pushed Icecat attributes. It uses the remove operation in JSON patch format to avoid redundancy and prevent conflicts.
  2. Add Template: Once old attributes are cleared, this template adds the updated attributes using the add operation. These templates include all attribute values, formatted and structured in accordance with ChannelEngine requirements.

The system uses discriminators to separate and process different types of data. This modular approach ensures flexibility, especially when attributes vary across product categories, locales, or client preferences.

Technical Considerations

The connector uses ChannelEngine’s PATCH endpoint to update “extradata” in bulk. Key technical elements include:

  • Content Type: application/json-patch+json
  • Authentication: API key sent via X-CE-KEY header
  • Allowlisting: The IP address from which data is pushed must be allowlisted in ChannelEngine to ensure API calls are accepted

This secure, controlled setup supports scalable, automated product updates that align with enterprise-grade workflows.

Error Handling and Maintenance

Errors such as “Extra Data not found” or “Duplicate extra data keys” are managed directly by ChannelEngine. These typically occur when a template update introduces a mismatch or attempts to add a field that already exists. In practice, the daily remove operation reduces the risk of such errors by clearing outdated data before new attributes are added.

Maintenance of the connector is centralized around the templates. Clients can request specific data formatting, such as adding prefixes like IC_ or language-specific suffixes to attribute keys. While the default language is English, the connector supports multiple localizations where applicable.

This template-based model makes the system both flexible and easy to maintain over time, even for large or multilingual catalogs.

With this latest integration, Icecat continues to expand its ecosystem of plug-and-play connectors, helping brands and retailers streamline their digital operations. The ChannelEngine Connector simplifies content delivery, improves catalog accuracy, and enables fast product onboarding across new marketplaces.

For retailers and brands already working with ChannelEngine, this connector provides a reliable, scalable way to automatically and efficiently enhance their product presence.
