Expert Reviews for HP Partners now in free Open Icecat

In the scope of the HP Amplify program, HP’s partner program, we collect expert reviews from hundreds of reliable sources in more than 14 countries. These populate a new Open Icecat catalog asset: Expert Reviews. As a result, these HP expert reviews are now freely available for HP partners in our open catalog.

Certified reviews

Icecat crawls thousands of media outlets and tech blogs on a daily basis, and filters out the relevant HP expert reviews. Next, we aggregate the reviews of the same product from different sources. Subsequently, the aggregated expert review goes through certification to deliver only the reviews you can trust. To certify sources, we use the following criteria:

  • The publisher must be independent, i.e. there is no affiliation with manufacturers or sellers.
  • The publisher must have (historically) published a minimum number of reviews. Otherwise, we will rule out the publication as non-expert.
  • The reviews have to be “hands-on”, meaning that the editor must have actually used and tested the product. An abundance of “fake” reviews exist on the internet, these are all discarded.
  • The publication’s product evaluation process must be relevant to the type of product examined.
  • The publisher must operate from a domain they own and control.

How to obtain reviews?

In short, retailers can fetch review content from a data export or connect through a Live interface. At the moment, there is only a signle integration methods:

  • Icecat XML: sponsored reviews can be fetched via Icecat standard pull-APIs. So, no integration with a new API is required for active Icecat users.

Based on adoption, we will roll-out the reviews to other standard Icecat APIs as well. A more detailed instruction manual is available.

In case of questions, feel free to contact your local Icecat account manager or contact us directly.
