Last month, on January 9th, I started my journey at Icecat, and I must say, it was an experience that left a lasting impression on me. Among the many things that impressed me, one thing stood out the most- the critical role ecommerce plays in today’s world. As someone from Chile, I have witnessed remarkable progress and development in this field, which should not go unnoticed. Hence, the central focus of this blog will be on shedding light on ecommerce in Chile.
Ecommerce in Chile has been experiencing clear growth because of the continuous and rapid development of technological infrastructure. This has resulted in more Chileans doing online purchases, increasing the percentage of people that buy online from 46% in 2017 to 63% in 2022, according to the International Trade Administration.
But technology has not been the only reason for this increase. Covid-19 has been a key player when it comes to growth in ecommerce. Within Latin America, Chile had the most consumers showing an increase in online purchasing after the pandemic outbreak.
According to the Americas Market Intelligence, Chile is one of Latin America’s most advanced ecommerce markets. Customers spent 9% of their personal private consumption through ecommerce in 2022. Furthermore, the average per capita ecommerce spending in Chile stands at US$975, a substantial increase from the regional average of US$473.
Finally, according to research conducted by EcommerceDB, Chile ranks as the 34th largest ecommerce market in the world, with a revenue of US$8.7 billion in 2021. Between 2021 and 2025, Chile is expected to have a growth rate of 13%, outperforming the global average of 10%.
It’s clear that ecommerce is rapidly growing in Latin America, particularly in Chile, and thus presents a significant opportunity to invest in its expansion. Therefore, businesses should consider the potential benefits of making ecommerce a top priority in today’s market. Luckily, Icecat provides many ways to boost your ecommerce, facilitate the flow of information, and improve conversion and user experience.
