Effective image management is crucial for delivering high-quality and relevant product information. That’s why HP and Icecat have worked on a new method to share the most relevant images to the Icecat network.
The new HP Image Import process introduces a more efficient way to import and prioritize images, with enhanced selection criteria. Key improvements include streamlined workflows, better prioritization based on product categories, and improved compliance with the latest HP standards. Consequently, ensuring a more organized and efficient process for syndication to the Icecat network.
In case your systems have their own logic on handling images, you may want to reconsider the logic you have for handling HP, Poly and HyperX images via Icecat.
We have introduced an improved approach to importing images from HP into Icecat, focusing on improving image quality, relevance, and prioritization. This change will affect the way images are imported and prioritized in different product categories. Furthermore, this process is now based on clearer filtering criteria and prioritization methods tailored to specific product types, ensuring that the best images are presented to end users.
Improved Image Quality and Consistency: With a strong emphasis on high resolution and clear guidelines for each image category, users will experience more consistent and visually appealing product imagery. Therefore, images are now prioritized based on clear criteria, ensuring that the most relevant visuals are displayed for each product.
Introduction of Detailed Images: A new category of Detailed Images has been added, providing users with even more in-depth visuals to better showcase product features and details.
Enhanced Product Visuals: Images such as Product Images, Annotated Images, Products in Us,e and Detailed Images are all prioritized and organized according to new, more refined rules. This ensures that the most relevant and highest-quality images are presented to end-users across different product categories.
Under the new import process additional product image type, namely “Image – Product Detail” will be imported.
In total, four different types of images are imported:
Сlear prioritization of images according to product categories.
The new import process includes clear prioritization of images according to product categories. This way we will have separate prioritization for Hardware and separate prioritization for Supplies & Paper, and Services as well.
For Hardware products, the image prioritization is designed to emphasize the key product visuals that help users understand the product’s features, functionality, and design. The system follows a structured approach with defined slots based on image types and their relevance to the product’s presentation.
The total number of slots varies based on availability and product line. A standard gallery feed for a specific product line should contain a mix of product images, annotated, product detail and/or In use In up to 12 slots.
Here’s how it works:
These are the core images showing the product in its simplest, most basic form.
These slots represent the most common and important views of the product. The priority is given to images showing the product’s front or center, followed by various angles that highlight the product’s key features (e.g., rear, left-facing, and control panels).
Images that provide extra details or annotations to highlight specific features of the product.
Images that focus on close-up shots to emphasize intricate details or product design.
Images showcasing the product in action, help users visualize how the product performs in real-world scenarios.
Additional product images that show various angles of the product.
These images provide additional perspectives of the product, helping users understand its design from all angles.
For supplies and paper products, the prioritization of images focuses on the essentials needed to accurately represent the products. Therefore, the images display the product in its primary form, and in some cases, include additional annotations or visuals that demonstrate its use.
The core images show the product in its purest form.
The primary image shows the product directly in front of the camera, giving a clear, unambiguous view of the product.
Detailed, annotated images that highlight product features and attributes. These are especially useful for users looking for more detailed product insights.
Focuses on compatibility aspects such as supported printer models or other products it works with.
Shows what’s included in the package.
These highlight the key selling points of the product.
For CarePack Services and POLY Services categories, we keep the following image rules apply:
Center facing, Left facing, Right facing, and other orientations in order of importance.
While the current focus is on product type and image categorization, a new priority based on the Submitting Agency tag will be implemented in 2025. This change aims to further refine image ranking based on the agency responsible for submitting the image, ensuring that users have the most reliable and relevant visuals.
HP’s new image import process through the Icecat network has been developed with the user experience in mind, ensuring that product visuals are not only high in quality but are also organized in a way that enhances the browsing experience.
