Amazon is updating the fee structure within its Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service, reducing costs for several categories of products. The new fee model will determine charges based on package dimensions and item weight. This is the latest adjustment in Amazon’s ongoing pricing strategy revisions. The company previously raised FBA rates in 2023 and, more recently, added a return fee for boxed returns in Germany.
The recent changes primarily benefit sellers of apparel, accessories, backpacks, and handbags. While Amazon has confirmed that these categories will see lower FBA fees, it has not disclosed specific savings or the exact items that qualify.
According to Amazon, starting May 15, 2025, FBA fees for these products will be calculated using only the package size category and unit weight, rather than factoring in whichever is greater between unit weight and dimensional weight.
The company is also simplifying its packaging size classifications. Instead of the previous 16 categories, there will now be just seven. Additionally, return processing fees will be waived or refunded for backpacks and handbags—items that typically see higher return rates. These changes will be retroactive to February 1st for applicable returns.
These updates are expected to roll out across all Amazon marketplaces in Europe. This includes the European Fulfilment Network, cross-border fulfillment between the UK and EU, and Amazon’s “shipped without additional packaging” program active in countries like Spain, Germany, France, Italy, and the UK.
