Review: LG SW362HV air conditioner – saving energy and preventing atmospheric pollution. The Energy-efficiency could be better.

Taking environmentally friendly decisions do indeed include making energy-efficient choices, or in our case, buying energy-efficient versions of energy suckers such as air conditioners. The indoor LG SW362HV air conditioner fulfills that requirement, and my father happened to have bought it last year.

Environmentally friendly behavior vs. energy-consuming products

Today, it is necessary to adopt a sustainable lifestyle that includes going green, but that goes beyond becoming a vegetarian. Residential energy consumption being an important factor contributing to our total energy consumption, and its related emissions, we can all adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle at home while still purchasing energy-consuming products like air conditioners. We do not necessarily have to abandon these products. Especially, when they have features that prevent atmospheric pollution. The LG air conditioner that my father bought also helps with my mother’s allergies because it continuously purifies their bedroom air. So if you are looking for an allergy-friendly product – a key feature for my parents – you are welcome.

Because of its negative impact on the planet, air conditioning is worth our attention

Surprisingly, air-conditioning is one of the world’s great overlooked industries, which is unfortunate since it plays a great role in the deterioration of our planet. Especially during hot summers, we can all help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by using air conditioners. According to UN estimations, the global air conditioner stock could increase from 660 million units in 2015 to more than 1.5 billion units by 2030, thereby significantly escalating CO2 emissions from this category. Having an efficient air conditioner at home feels like we, as a household, have taken the right step toward eco-friendliness and a more sustainable lifestyle without having to sacrifice a somewhat “luxurious” commodity.

Air conditioning in growing African economies

Last year, the African continent experienced a 4% increase in air conditioner demand, and countries with rapidly growing economies such as Ivory Coast, indeed have something to do with that increase. This comes as no surprise to me. In effect, growing up, everytime we would go back to my native country of Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) for the summer, my siblings and I would be struck by the prevalence of air conditioners and its – almost – obsessive use by our cousins and relatives. I think that LG Electronics air conditioners are rather efficient, easy-to-use, and affordable. No wonder they are present in many Ivorian households.

LG SW362HV air conditioner

Against this background, when purchasing an air conditioner, considering features such as the inverter compressor, which makes the indoor LG SW362HV air conditioner a more sustainable product, is encouraged. The DUAL Inverter Compressor™ constantly adjusts a compressor’s speed to maintain desired temperature levels, while saving more energy than conventional compressors. Nevertheless, when it comes to the cooling energy efficiency, thus when it comes to reducing carbon footprint, this air conditioner is not as efficient. This is why, I shall recommend being mindful of the Energy Efficient Ratio (EER). This air conditioner has only 3.26 EER, while the higher the EER, the most energy-efficient the system is.

To sum up? Go for a higher EER

Despite this EER drawback, I would definitely encourage others to buy such a product – while opting for a higher EER. Further, I would recommend to select a product that has both a DUAL Inverter Compressor™ and a ionizer that contributes to preventing atmospheric pollution by purifying the air.
