Icecat, the global publisher and syndicator of product information, announces the introduction of a new MCP (Model Context Protocol) service. MCP is the standard language as developed by leading AI companies. MCP makes tools such as databases and functionalities accessible to AI agents like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. This innovative service supports the latest generation of AI agents.
Icecat’s MCP service enables AI not only to better understand and apply product data, but also to power Icecat’s own new AI agents developed for its customers. These smart agents can be deployed for product advice, product content management, and other Agentic AI purposes such as automated customer service, content creation, and decision support.
“With the introduction of our MCP service, we want to lay the foundation for an open and transparent AI ecosystem,” says Martijn Hoogeveen, CEO of Icecat. “AI agents that use reliable and standardized product information can operate much more effectively. In addition, we enable AI to develop specialized agents itself, making applications more scalable and innovative.”
The MCP service integrates seamlessly with Icecat’s existing open catalog and product data infrastructure. This way, Icecat not only provides a solid foundation for e-commerce and product marketing, but now also a key component for the AI-driven economy.
