Icecat Expands Support for EU Battery Regulation Compliance Features

To align with the EU’s Battery Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542), Icecat has implemented new battery-related features within its product data system to support compliance across multiple product categories. The regulation introduces new requirements around battery identification, sustainability, labeling, hazardous substances, recycling, and digital product transparency.

See the regulation here.

Battery Regulation Features Available in Icecat

To support the EU Battery Regulation requirements, Icecat now supports a broader set of battery-related specifications within its product data model.

The following battery-related features are available within the Icecat system:

The battery-related specifications are integrated directly into the Icecat taxonomy and feature framework and can be distributed through XML exports, JSON feeds, Icecat Live, APIs, marketplace feeds, distributor platforms, procurement systems, and PIM or ERP integrations.

Several of the fields support predefined restricted values or structured formats. For example, the Battery category uses predefined classifications, while other fields support structured textual values, URLs, numerical values, or Yes/No indicators.

Structured Product Data With IDs and Standardized Values

The new battery-related fields are integrated directly into the Icecat taxonomy and feature framework.

Each specification is assigned its own feature ID and standardized value structure, allowing the information to be distributed consistently across:

  • XML exports
  • JSON feeds
  • Icecat Live
  • API integrations
  • Marketplace feeds
  • Distributor platforms
  • Procurement systems
  • PIM and ERP environments

Several fields support predefined values and standardized Yes/No indicators, while others allow structured textual information or URLs.

For example, QR code-related fields support URL-based references, hazardous substance indicators use structured compliance values, and battery category fields use predefined classifications. Collection and recycling markings are also mapped through standardized specification fields.

This allows channel partners and platforms to process compliance information more consistently across systems.

Supporting Standardized Product Information

The EU Battery Regulation underscores the importance of structured, accessible battery information across digital commerce ecosystems.

Battery-related specifications are increasingly required not only on product pages, but also within marketplace onboarding workflows, procurement systems, distributor databases, and compliance-related documentation.

By integrating these fields directly into the Icecat data structure, brands and channel partners can distribute more consistent battery-related product information across international markets and sales channels.

To Sum Up

As European sustainability and compliance requirements continue to evolve, product information management also becomes more detailed and regulation-driven.

With the introduction of these new battery-related specifications, Icecat continues to expand its data model to support scalable, standardized compliance information across the digital commerce ecosystem.
