New: Index Files per Vertical

From April 13 onward, Icecat publishes index files per vertical for the following locales: EN, NL, US, FR, DE, IT, ES, DK, RU, BR, PT, ZH, SV. A Vertical is defined here as a root category, such as Computers & Peripherals, Lighting, or Fashion. Due to the increased size of Icecat, it is more efficient for specialist retailers to process a single Vertical. Instead of the full index with all products. Because it is much faster to process, for example, 100K Fashion product references than 10M. Therefore Icecat has started publishing Index files per Vertical. At the same time, the structure of the Indexes stayed the same. And, Full Index files with products from all verticals are still available. During coming sprints, we will publish Index files per vertical also for other locales.

The generic Full Icecat call looks as follows:

https://data.icecat.biz/export/level4/<lang>/<verticalID>.vertical.files.index.xml.gz

Where:

  • <lang> stands for language or locale code.
  • level4 – to access Full Icecat. In case of Open Icecat, use freexml.
  • <verticalID> stands for the ID of a root category.

You can find the complete overview of verticals and their corresponding vertical IDs below:

  • This is very good news. Do you expect to add the language US any time soon? It would be a great help to us.

    • Yes, working on the rollout of the Vertical indexes for all Locales. We'll keep you posted via the blog.

    • The US indexes should now be available. Please, check. We're running some checks as well.
