European Parliament Pushes for Stronger Crackdown on Unsafe E-Commerce Imports

  • Accelerate the implementation of the revised Union Customs Code (UCC), including reforms to customs duty exemptions, such as the removal of the low‑value parcel exemption under €150.
  • Introduce a harmonized EU‑level handling fee to cover supervisory costs for small parcels from outside the EU.

The combined effect of these demands is clear: the era of easy, low‑cost, unregulated parcel imports that undermine safety, compliance, and fair competition may be drawing to a close.

  • Prepare for customs and VAT changes, as well as potentially higher handling costs, when selling goods imported into the EU.
  • Align with compliance‑ready infrastructure partners and data syndication services to avoid disruptions as enforcement becomes more stringent.
