We are a startup insurance company. Looking to be in the New Zealand market early next year.

We will be offering item insurance e.g. phone, camera, laptop
Additional items to be added in the future e.g. bike, drone

We need access to a database of items (either locally with regular updates or via an API) to;
Allow customer to identify items online by selecting Make, Model and Price
e.g. Samsung Galaxy S7 or HP ProBook 6540b
Allow us to attach rating indicators or factors to various items for calculating premium
Stock images to assist with identification

A typical flow might look like;
Customer requests a quote for a smartphone
We display a list of Smartphone vendors for selection
Based on the selection we display a list of Models
Based on selection we display a list of variations (e.g. different size SIM cards etc)
Based on selection a recommended values is displayed

I have attempted to get this information from the Open Icecat but the access is very much orientated towards all details on individual products

We would like to get a small number of details on all products in selected categories

e.g. Brand, Product Family, Product Name, Product Model
for notebooks, smartphones, digital cameras

Hi Peter, thanks for your message! Of course, you can decide to import only some data instead of the whole data sheet. This is an easy setup you should do upfront. Icecat data is standardized and atomized, thus very flexible to integrate, especially in the XML, JSON and LIVE formats. Check the manuals at the "Manuals" section in the blog.
