In Sprint 243, Icecat delivered significant updates across our platform to enhance product content, editor efficiency, and partner experience. This release includes the import of millions of new product reviews, the introduction of two new MCP tools, improvements to the Brand Cloud Specs block, and a range of other enhancements across icecat.biz and Brand Cloud. These updates help partners access richer data, work faster, and ensure better quality and reliability in product information distribution. For additional details, please refer to the previous Icecat Release Notes.
We are excited to announce a significant enhancement delivered in Sprint 243 – a major expansion of product reviews in the Icecat database.
Before this release, reviews were available only for 2 brands, HP and ATEN, covering 186,945 unique products.
With Sprint 243, we have now imported:
Note: This update does not introduce a new way of reviews delivery. It simply adds a much larger number of reviews to the existing output formats – XML and JSON.
Access to reviews depends on brand sponsorship and channel partner subscription level:
By expanding review coverage across thousands of brands, Icecat strengthens its position as a comprehensive and reliable product content provider.
We will continue to regularly update the reviews database to keep content fresh and relevant.
We are excited to announce the addition of two new MCP (Model Context Protocol) tools that enhance the way product information is structured and delivered:
This tool provides detailed information about a product’s reasons to buy, helping channel partners, e-commerce platforms, and end-users quickly understand the key selling points of each product.
This tool delivers lifecycle information for products, including release dates and end-of-life dates, wherever these are provided by the brand. This ensures better product planning and inventory management for channel partner business.
Both Reasons to Buy and Lifecycle data are also integrated into the product_overview tool, which aggregates all available product information into a single, comprehensive MCP tool.
This means that whether you use individual tools or the full overview, the systems can access a complete picture of product details, including selling points and lifecycle dates.
With these new tools, Icecat continues to strengthen its position as a complete and reliable source of product content for channel partners.
In this sprint, we improved editors’ efficiency by enhancing the user experience in the Specs block of the Icecat Brand Cloud product page. These improvements streamline daily workflows and make product editing faster and more intuitive.
Key Improvements:
By making the Specs block more intuitive and efficient, we are enabling editors to spend more time on quality content and less on repetitive tasks.
In Sprint 243, we delivered other updates across icecat.biz and Brand Cloud, focused on improving usability, performance, and overall partner experience.
Search results for “New-to-Old” and “Old-to-New” now reflect product creation dates, rather than modification dates. This ensures that newly released products appear as expected, even if older products were updated through auto-imports.
Updates to sitemap generation improve indexing consistency, helping search engines better understand your product content.
Our SSL certificate has been renewed, ensuring secure and uninterrupted access to icecat.biz.
Managers can now map the same feed column to both GTIN and Product code, simplifying feed management when official product codes are missing.
A new API lays the groundwork for a user-friendly interface in upcoming sprints, helping partners monitor product quality according to requested standards.
We now track datasheet downloads health, and notify our team of significant drops, ensuring uninterrupted data availability.
Storage systems and server clusters have been upgraded to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability.
New backup paths and controlled access ensure continuity and security for internal operations.
Additional automated tests and system monitoring improve stability and maintain high-quality service for partners.
With Sprint 243, Icecat continues to reinforce its role as a comprehensive, partner-focused product content platform. The expansion of product reviews and the introduction of new MCP tools make it easier to access product insights and lifecycle information, supporting smarter decision-making and smoother integration for partner systems. At the same time, improvements to the Brand Cloud Specs block, search functionality, feed management, and platform security streamline workflows, enhance monitoring, and ensure reliable operations. Together, these updates make Icecat more efficient, user-friendly, and responsive, setting the stage for continued innovation and value across our ecosystem.
