Icecat Now Supports The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). What You Need to Know and How to Prepare

Introduction

The clock is ticking. The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) takes effect on December 13, 2024, bringing mandatory safety and traceability standards to all products on the EU market. Icecat has enhanced its data system to support our partners with these new compliance requirements.

Our approach to harmonized compliance focuses on two essential components:

1. Manufacturer and EU Representative Contact Information

2 . Comprehensive EU Safety Warnings

Let us guide you through what you need to know and how Icecat can help streamline your compliance process.

Contact Information

The GPSR requires detailed contact information at the brand level unless assigned by product or product group. To comply, brands must provide:

For Manufacturers:

•Company name

•Full address

•Website or phone number

For Non-EU Manufacturers:

•Appoint an EU Authorized Representative.

•Provide their name, full address, and contact details.

This ensures that all products have clear traceability and accountability within the EU market.

Safety Warnings

Transparency in safety warnings is a critical component of GPSR compliance. Icecat’s data system supports the input of required safety warnings, which include:

•Storage Precautionary Statements

•Health Hazard Statements (split into General and EU-specific statements)

•Physical Hazard Statements (split into General and EU-specific statements)

•Disposal Precautionary Statements

•Dangerous Goods Classifications

•EU Environmental Statements

•Statements of Conformance/Compliance

•General Precautionary Statements

•Prevention and Response Precautionary Statements

These warnings can either be uploaded as part of a PDF user manual or entered directly at the attribute level in Icecat’s system.
