Icecat Now Supports Common Charger Regulation Compliance Features

To align with the EU’s Common Charger Regulation (Directive (EU) 2022/2380), Icecat has implemented new features in our data system to support compliance within a range of products. This regulation, which mandates USB-C as the standard charging interface for specific electronic devices starting December 28, 2024, aims to enhance consumer convenience, reduce electronic waste, and provide clear product information.

This regulation applies to the following list of products:

  1. Handheld mobile phones
  2. Laptops
  3. Tablets
  4. Digital Cameras
  5. Headphones, headsets and earbuds
  6. Portable speakers
  7. E-readers
  8. Keyboards
  9. Mice
  10. Portable navigation systems

New Features for Compliance

Icecat’s data system now includes the following enhancements to help our partners comply with the regulation:

1. Indicate Charging Accessories: Partners can specify whether the regulated electronic products include a charging device or come without one.

2. High-Resolution Pictograms: We have  added three EU-compliant pictograms to visually represent:

• A product that includes a charging device.

• A product without a charging device.

• Details about the device’s USB-C compatibility and charging capabilities.

Furthermore, these pictograms can be associated with product listings, ensuring compliance with the directive’s requirement for clear and consumer-friendly labeling.

How to Integrate this information in our database

The feature name that is associated with the Common Charger is listed as:
“AC adapter included”

There is a yes or no (also represented as y/n) that indicates whether your product falling under the compliance categories includes the mandated universal charger.

If this charger is included then the associated pictogram displays the following:

If the product does not include the mandated universal charger then the selection of “no/n” should be chosen and the pictogram will be displayed as follows:

As summary:

Feature name: AC adapter included
Feature type: Yes/No
Feature ID: 1230

Feature name: USB Type-C charging port
Feature type: Yes/No
Feature ID: 48505

To Sum Up

We encourage all partners to review their product sheets and to align with the compliance of the EU’s Common Charger Regulation (Directive (EU) 2022/2380) by December 28th, 2024 for the above mentioned products. Consequently, we highly encourage partners to begin updating their product data to reflect these new requirements.
