FAQ: Open-Source Magento2-Extension V1

This post will find the frequently asked questions on the Open Source Magento2-Extension V1.

Does the extension support Full-Icecat users?

No. Full icecat users will be unlocked in the coming V2 version.

Does the extension enrich product content via icecat-live or icecat-api?

Via icecat-api.

Does the extension immediately start downloading the data from Icecat upon installation?

No, not at all. The data will be downloaded only after the proper configurations. Users have the choice to either manually download the data or first schedule an automated job.

Is it possible to get data while creating the new product in Magento?

Yes, using the Single Product Update. Please ensure all the configurations are as required before using this option. For example – specify which fields you would like to download.

Does all the data download by default?

No, only data configured by the user using the Yes/No options in the extension.

Will this new extension overwrite the existing product content?

No, all the product content will be stored in the Icecat-created attributes.  The standard Magento attributes -Product Title, Short Description, and Long Description- will be overwritten only when the user intentionally maps these standard attributes.  Users also have a choice to map different fields.

Since Images/Videos are downloaded in the default section – the extension will overwrite only the same images/videos from Icecat.

Can I lock certain fields?

No, the extension will always download the data in the mapped attributes. If you make any changes in the intentionally mapped attributes locally, It will overwrite these attributes during the next download. You could avoid this by keeping icecat and your local attributes separate.
