Iceclog 2.5.0 Release Notes: Security and Groups Improvements

Version 2.5.0 of Iceclog is released, based on user and member feedback, and security scans.

Groups improvements

Some of our members reported that they can not easily find a way to join Group or see all available groups. To make this more straightforward we introduced two improvements. Firstly, public groups now have a “Join Group” option in the navigation. If you are already member of one group, this option will switch to a “Leave Group” option.

Secondly, our Groups block is now simplified and polished. We found out that our members are not using sorting options for groups. However, they needed a simple way to access all available groups.

Therefore, we removed sorting options and introduced a “See all groups” link at the bottom of featured groups.

Share post embed improvement

When sharing Iceclog post as an embed, each post was starting with “Download this post in PDF format” which is not needed in a post preview. We implemented a mechanism to clean such irrelevant data when sharing posts as an embed, ensuring that only relevant data is previewed and shared.

User Profiles improvement

We want our members to know each other. Profile pictures are very important for a first impression, yet some profiles are simply not fully completed.

To help our members setup their accounts properly with all important fields we implemented a reminder mechanism which locks a profile to the Edit profile page, until it is fully setup.

Complete setup of a profile means that required fields have values and a profile picture are uploaded.

Important note: this change is affecting both new and existing members. If you don’t have your profile picture uploaded yet, you will be asked to do so.

You can easily setup your profile picture with the “Change Profile Photo” feature, which supports Upload, Drag and Drop or a Take Photo option.

Security maintenance

We performed the regular security maintenance and updated our whole infrastructure, server and CMS. We updated our CMS to the latest available version. Furthermore, we updated all our modules to the newest versions and removed several modules which were no longer supported or needed.
