Icecat PIM Functionality Spotlight: Warehousing Selector

Without a doubt, automating your suppliers’ connection (warehousing) for online e-commerce trade comes with investing time, some expenses, technical implementation, and possible threats. But have you considered the consequences of ineffective warehousing management? These technologies give businesses a competitive edge by giving specialized answers to particular business problems.

Investing in warehouse automation can pay off in the long term, even with your limited budget. Embracing warehouse automation has several benefits, such as improved inventory control, lower operating expenses, and more customer and employee satisfaction.

What is Icecat PIM

Icecat PIM stands out as a sophisticated platform that not only efficiently manages and elevates product data but also offers features for seamless integration with supplier feeds, pricing, and warehousing rules including filtering and product relations. Developed by Icecat Commerce, Icecat PIM is a cloud-based product information management system. With full customization options, Icecat PIM functionality seamlessly integrates with Icecat for richer content and well-known e-commerce systems such as Magento, Shopify, Woocommerce, and Prestashop, providing a comprehensive solution for streamlined product catalog management.

Icecat PIM Warehouse Selector

Picture having Warehouse 1 and Warehouse 2. Both warehouses supply the same product. As a reseller, you want to buy products with the cheapest purchase price and sell them with the highest sell price. Typically, you’d establish an automated rule to select the warehouse with the lowest price in the PIM. However, there are times when you wish to apply distinct rules for certain categories or products. For instance, you might want Product X to consistently ship from Warehouse 2, regardless of the price, because you have an exclusivity contract with this warehouse. This specific configuration can be easily set up within the Icecat PIM Warehouse Selector settings. In Icecat PIM you have the flexibility to establish preferred warehouse selector rules based on:

  • Product
  • Brand
  • Category

Moreover, you can craft multiple rules and prioritize them according to your needs. This feature streamlines and automates the warehouse selection process, reducing the need for communication with suppliers. In situations where your preferred supplier lacks the product in stock, Icecat PIM functionality intelligently applies alternative rules or defaults to the general rule, selecting the warehouse with the most cost-effective product. The choice depends on your configured settings.

Improved Warehouse Filter 2.4.3

Apart from the Warehouse selector, you can also make use of our improved main and additional Warehouse filter in the Icecat PIM product overview. Since our latest release, we have improved our warehouse selection filter. The default choice now is ‘Select warehouse,’ which includes products with a selected warehouse, those lacking a warehouse, and those without a selected warehouse. Notably, the additional warehouse filter becomes selectable only when a warehouse is specified in the main filter.

The default setting for the additional warehouse filter is now ‘Show all products from this warehouse.’These improvements contribute to a more streamlined and user-friendly experience. To learn more about our latest release, please read our release notes
