French Marketplace Rue du Commerce Uses the Open Icecat Catalog to Optimize Customer Journey

Rue du Commerce, a pioneer and key player in French e-commerce since 1999, is now retrieving product content from the Open Icecat catalog to optimize the customer journey for its online shoppers. Rue du Commerce is a High Tech specialist and the first French player to launch a marketplace in France back in 2007. It offers more than 6 million products, from over 1000 leading brands and retailers in the fields of high tech, smart home and home equipment. Now, Rue du Commerce would like its manufacturers to register for Icecat and start enriching their product content for free.

Benefits for Brands

Icecat provides a free service that allows brands to manage their content and distribute it to any retailer or marketplace. After a brand registers, its editors may immediately begin entering and enriching product information in the Icecat Free Vendor Central. Brands may also subscribe to Open Icecat’s premium services for limitless or regulated content distribution to all of their channel partners. Set up a connection to Icecat’s push-API as an alternative.

Why should brand owners devote time and resources to improving product content? Firstly, the online customers will be more engaged by rich product content. Furthermore, it facilitates and speeds up placing products online at channel partners’ platforms. This results in increased sales conversions.

The biggest operational benefit for a vendor is that it prevents having to spend a lot of time and money on its own product information manager (PIM) and syndication infrastructure. To start, all you need is a free Vendor Central account. Icecat also ensures that all (60+) main global languages are supported in its multilingual taxonomy. This ensures that once a product datasheet is entered, it will be available in all of these languages!

Furthermore, Icecat offers digital rights management to limit syndication to authorized resellers only, in case of advanced brand requirements.

How to join?

After registration, a brand owner can immediately start entering and enriching the product content including product titles, descriptions, specs, images, 360 degrees product demos, videos, feature logos, sustainability data, and Enhanced Product Stories.

  2. Secondly, Confirm your e-mail address.
  3. Finally, contact Icecat to assign your brand to your account.
