Online sales revenue in France increased by 11.9% in the first three months of the year compared to the first quarter of 2018. Nearly 25 billion euros were spent on the web during the first 3 months of the year.
Currently, French e-commerce has been growing ever faster according to the FEVAD study in 2019. Nearly 9 out of 10 Internet users buy on the Internet.
On average, 42.9 million Internet users (68.3% of French people) visited at least one of the top 15 e-commerce sites or apps each month and marketplaces are in the top position in France. These platforms such as Amazon, Leboncoin, Cdiscount or Ebay are all the rage in France.
100 billion euros in revenue expected in 2019
As expected, the €90 billion mark in Internet sales was reached in 2018. It shows the sector’s ability to overcome cyclical fluctuations thanks to its intrinsic dynamics, which enables it to maintain a high level of growth. This dynamic should enable e-commerce to reach the historic milestone of 100 billion by the end of the year.
Does the growth of e-commerce mark the end of physical stores?
Quite the contrary. For FEVAD, e-commerce, physical and mobile stores form a “winning alliance.” A good online catalogue is indeed an excellent showcase for stores. 79% of e-merchants note that the website contributes to the increase in physical store traffic, 63% believe that it contributes to the increase in store sales and 42% see it as an opportunity to expand the catchment area. On the consumer side, 28% of them took advantage of the withdrawal of an order at a relay point or store to buy other products.
