We are living in the age of technology and information has become easily accessible. Therefore, we want to have the things we need in the shortest time possible. This desire leads us to leave our old habits behind and sacrifice them in the temple of technology. However, as a retro lover, it was not an easy decision for me to get an Ebook because I’ve always wanted to have my very own physical book library in my reading room. But, charmed by its mobility and comfort I decided to buy an e-reader after all!
I was looking for something that I could hold with one hand, and is not too heavy. Clara HD seemed therefore a good choice to me, since it has a 6 inches screen and it’s only 166 gram. At first, bigger Ebooks were confusing my mind but after using Clara HD, I realized it’s sufficient as font sizes are adjustable. Luckily, I found a discount offer and bought it for 99 euro. Although I still think it’s kinda pricey, it’s not that much compared to buying physical books if you are a book lover. Ebooks are approximately two to five euro and paper books are ten to twenty euro. After around ten to twelve books, one will start saving money by buying Ebooks instead of buying paper books.
Ebooks are definitely more eco-friendly than paper books for different reasons. There is no need to cut trees for Ebooks and unlimited copies can be made. Most of the printers are using petroleum inks which are not at all eco-friendly. However, we need to consider energy usage and carbon dioxide spread by Ebooks. Nevertheless, it’s not as much as we think compared to physical books if you are a bookish person and read quite often.
Clara HD comes with 8 GB storage capacity. I’m mostly using it for textbooks and I can store more than 6000 books, so it’s more than enough. 8 GB is great for people who want to read PDFs and other document formats since they are relatively large. The battery is really long lasting for an electronic device. A full charge lasted three weeks with daily use, which is really great. The screen uses a blue-light filter which is really healthy for the eyes. It doesn’t cause an eye strain even if you read more than an hour. What I don’t like about my Ebook is its processing speed. The interface is sometimes annoyingly slow. I know these devices have no high RAMs but slowness still annoys me when I try to change screen brightness or adjusting font size. Most of the PDFs are usually larger than the device’s default resolution, so you need to make it fit, but it takes like a couple of minutes. Worth to mention, it’s not slow when you are changing the page.
According to my searches, Clara HD is one of the latest Ebook in the market and is perfectly enough for my needs. I was not sure at first, but the quality of the product has wiped up all of my doubts. All I can add is that I am very satisfied with my purchase.
